Vehicle, battery, rental and insurance rules vary by ferry operator, vessel and provider. Confirm the current policy with both the operator and rental company before booking. Examples below explain the process, not a specific company policy.

OPEN BRING VS RENT COMPARISON

Bring it or rent there?

BRING YOUR VEHICLE

Best when continuity matters

Bringing a vehicle can simplify luggage and multi-stop mainland travel, but it adds a vehicle ticket, earlier port arrival and provider-policy checks.

  • One vehicle for a longer itinerary
  • Easier with substantial luggage or equipment
  • Check written rental permission, insurance terms and the exact ferry policy
RENT ON ARRIVAL

Best when flexibility matters

Traveling as a foot passenger can reduce boarding complexity and lets you choose a mobility option suited to each island. Availability and opening hours still need confirmation.

  • Simpler passenger boarding
  • Right-size the ride for each destination
  • Reserve ahead and verify port pickup or transfer arrangements

The Anatomy of Boarding

01

Confirm permission before paying

Ask the rental provider in writing, review insurance and cross-water terms, then confirm the specific operator and sailing accepts your vehicle or battery type.

02

Book the correct people and vehicle

Passenger and vehicle reservations are separate booking details. Enter the exact vehicle category and dimensions requested by the operator.

03

Follow the operator's arrival time

Vehicle check-in is earlier than foot-passenger boarding. Join the signed vehicle queue and keep tickets, identity and vehicle documents ready.

04

Board only on crew instruction

The driver may be directed separately from passengers. Follow crew signals, park where instructed, secure the vehicle and take valuables with you.

05

Return when the crew announces arrival

Note your deck and stairwell. Re-enter the vehicle deck only when permitted, and start or move the vehicle only when instructed.
